Engaging Young People in Reporting and Storytelling
As part of the Allez l’Éco project, young volunteers from local schools and university students have been invited to contribute to the initiative through interviews, event reporting, and sustainability storytelling activities. These actions aim to actively involve young people in exploring and documenting real-life sustainable practices within their communities.
The initiative offers participants the opportunity to engage directly with sustainability professionals, organisations, and event organisers, while developing practical communication and research skills. Through this experience, young contributors become active observers of how sustainability is implemented in practice across different contexts.
Learning through interviews and dialogue
A key component of the activity is conducting interviews with individuals and organisations working in sustainability-related fields. These interviews can take different forms, including video conversations, written exchanges, or recorded discussions later transformed into articles or digital content.
Participants are encouraged to prepare a short set of questions, agreed in advance with interviewees, focusing on themes such as sustainable event management, environmental responsibility, community engagement, and innovative practices.
This process allows young people to develop a deeper understanding of sustainability challenges while collecting real-world insights from experts and practitioners.
Reporting on real events
Alongside interviews, participants are also invited to explore and document local events through a sustainability lens. This often involves observing how environmental and social practices are put into action, from waste reduction and circular economy solutions to sustainable mobility, responsible food choices, and inclusive participation.
These experiences are then translated into stories that capture not only what is being done, but also the atmosphere, ideas, and people behind it. Through short written reflections, participant quotes, and simple multimedia content, each event becomes an opportunity to share real examples of sustainability in practice.
A collaborative learning experience
These activities are designed as a shared learning journey between young people, educators, and sustainability practitioners, where collaboration becomes a key part of the experience. Participants are not only guided through the process but also supported with practical tools such as interview guidelines, question frameworks, and real examples of good practice that help shape their work in the field.
In cases where direct contact with organisers is not possible, the experience can still unfold directly on the ground. Interviews may be conducted with event participants on site, opening the way to more spontaneous exchanges and a diversity of perspectives that enrich the storytelling process.
From experience to impact
The stories and materials created through these activities naturally find their place within the wider Allez l’Éco communication and learning ecosystem. Each article, interview, and multimedia piece becomes part of a collective effort to highlight inspiring initiatives and bring visibility to sustainability practices in everyday contexts.
In this way, young people are not only learning about sustainability in theory, but also helping to document and share it in action. Through their voices and perspectives, they contribute to making these experiences more tangible and accessible, while gradually strengthening their role as active, engaged and informed citizens.
