Make your winter season more sustainable

by Sarah Khalloufi

I’ve always loved winter—the coziness of warm drinks, soft blankets, and the sparkle of crisp, cold mornings. But over the years, I realized winter often brings habits that aren’t always kind to the planet. It got me thinking about simple, mindful ways we can enjoy this season sustainably without sacrificing comfort.

  • Layer Up: Instead of turning up the heat, bundle up with cozy layers to stay warm and reduce energy use.
  • Choose LED Lights: Brighten long evenings with energy-efficient LED lights for decorations or cozy lighting.
  • Eat Seasonal & Local: Enjoy hearty root vegetables, citrus fruits, and soups while supporting local farmers.
  • Opt for Reusable Wraps: Use fabric or recycled paper for gift wrapping to cut down on holiday waste.

Sustainability doesn’t have to be overwhelming—it’s about enjoying winter a little more mindfully.

This season, let’s embrace the simple joys while staying kind to the planet. A little warmth, a little intention, and a greener winter for all!
